Job Summary

 

Consider joining Metal Exchange as a Maintenance and Trailer Repair Technician at our Moulton, AL location. The Maintenance and Trailer Repair Technician repairs and maintains production and warehouse equipment in addition to assisting with the structural, mechanical, and electrical maintenance needs of the facility.  If you are someone that has excellent diagnostic ability and multi-craft skills including mechanical, electrical, welding, hydraulics, pneumatics, or mobile equipment, we want to speak with you!

Responsibilities

Responsibilities of the Role:

  • Responds to service calls from all areas involving breakdowns to diagnose and repair equipment to meet requirements.
  • Diagnoses, repairs, or replaces faulty hydraulic, mechanical, or pneumatic components. This could comprise of repairs for bearings, couplings, electronic components, etc.
  • Responsible for prioritizing repairs with input and direction from Plant Management.
  • Coordinates with outside vendors on troubleshooting, repairing, and maintaining plant mobile equipment when needed.
  • Diagnoses and repairs all mobile equipment (gas, diesel, propane). Major repairs could include engine & transmission replacement.
  • Troubleshoots mechanical & electrical problems, performs brake work, tune-ups, and forklift mast repairs.
  • Maintains and repairs over the road semi trailers and related equipment systems. Inspects and tests components to ensure they function properly.  Dismantles components and installs new or repaired parts.
  • Cleans and lubricates shafts, bearings, gears and other parts. 
  • Installs and repairs electrical lights and wiring. 
  • Lays out, assembles, installs and maintains pneumatic systems.
  • Repairs and maintains structural components of trailers such as frames, wheels, axles, landing legs, side walls, floors, etc. 
  • Sets up and operates machine tools such as grinder, drill, and saws along with welding torch/equipment to cut or join metal parts.
  • Performs scheduled preventive maintenance (P.M.) on plant equipment including, but not limited to, the baler, sorting tables, air compressors, and mobile equipment.
  • Conducts daily inspection of the baler including maintenance of the conveyor, wire tie and all support equipment.
  • Installs and/or modifies equipment in cooperation with Moulton Management to improve reliability, operations, and operational safety.
  • Completes all paperwork on a timely basis.
  • Follows company rules, regulations, and policies regarding work and safety practices. Performs lock out/tag out procedures.
  • Maintains a neat and orderly work area including general housekeeping of the work area upon completion of a repair. Assists with general housekeeping of the Maintenance area.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

Ideal Candidate Will Have:

Education

  • A High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Associate’s degree (AA) or Industrial Maintenance Certification from a two-year college or technical school is preferred
  • Welder Certification is desirable

Experience

  • 2+ years of industrial maintenance experience is preferred
  • Minimum of 2+ years of experience with engine maintenance
  • Knowledge of propane fuel systems, and hydraulics preferred, but not required.

Other required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to calculate proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. 
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Ability to use measuring devices, rulers, micrometers, etc.
  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. 
  • Ability to read maintenance blueprints, hydraulic schematics, ladder diagrams and bill of materials.
  • Self-motivated, results-oriented, and adaptable, with the ability to work under pressure and manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Must be able to prioritize and make decisions based on the needs of the yard.
  • Ability to create a timeline and communicate how much time a repair or maintenance project is projected to take.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

  • The employee is frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles and extreme heat.
